The root system of crops is very important, and the three elements of root growth are analyzed

Plants have two mouths for absorbing nutrients, namely the root system and the leaves. Most of the nutrients are absorbed by the root system, so the health of the root system is very important. So what factors are related to the health of the root system? Next, we will answer from the following three aspects:

The relationship between soil environment and root system

1. The effect of water on the root system

When the soil moisture is too dry, it is easy to promote root suberization and self-thinning; excessive moisture can inhibit the respiration of roots, resulting in stop growth or rot and death. At the same time, too much soil moisture will squeeze out the soil oxygen, resulting in the death of the root system due to hypoxia, and at the same time affecting the soil aeration.

2. The effect of pH on the root system

If the soil is acidic or alkaline, it will reduce the availability of soil nutrients to varying degrees, it is difficult to form a good soil structure, seriously inhibit the activities of soil microorganisms, and may also cause heavy metal poisoning, thereby affecting the growth and development of various crops.

3. How to judge whether the pH of the soil is suitable?

Determination from soil color: Acidic soils are generally darker in color, mostly dark brown, while alkaline soils are mostly white, yellow and other light colors. In some saline-alkali areas, there is often a layer of white powdery alkaline substances on the soil surface. (Experience judgment, there are errors)

4. The effect of soil salinity on the root system

Each crop has its own suitable soil salinity range, beyond this range will have certain effects on crops.

The relationship between soil nutrients and roots

1. Rooting with pure nutrients

a) Nitrogen content has a certain regulation and local stimulation effect on the root system, which can increase the crown width and dry weight of the root system. With the right amount of nitrogen fertilizer, root growth can be promoted.

b) Phosphorus can provide energy for the root system. The data show that during the growing period of crops, phosphorus is concentrated in the young and tender tissues with rich vitality, such as the root tip and the growth point of the shoot tip. The phosphorus content of the root system is higher than that of the stem and leaf. . When crops are deficient in phosphorus, cell division will be affected, protein synthesis will be reduced, and sugar transport will be blocked, resulting in weak root growth.

c) Calcium is mostly concentrated in the mature parts, and the content of young parts is low, and it is more difficult for calcium to move in the plant body. Once lacking, the performance of calcium deficiency first occurs in the young parts. If the umbilical part and the top growth point , stem, root tip growth points, etc., will cause the growth of the growth point of the meristem to gradually weaken, resulting in rot and necrosis.

d) Zinc affects auxin synthesis in plants. Auxin can not only promote the growth of shoot apex growth points, but also promote the growth of root apex growth points. Studies have shown that the zinc content in plant roots is higher than that in the aerial parts. When the supply of zinc is sufficient, it can accumulate in the root system. . When zinc is deficient, leaf chlorosis is the most obvious manifestation, followed by smaller leaves and shortened internodes, and plant growth is inhibited.

The relationship between soil microorganisms and roots

Beneficial microorganisms (microbial inoculants) will produce a large amount of gibberellins and cytokines in the process of life activities in the soil. After these substances come into contact with plant roots, they can regulate the metabolism of crops and stimulate the growth of crops. This results in an increase in crop yields.
